In the village of Salou, in a residential complex located in the bay, next to a cliff, the substitution of an artificial rock slab face - that both saltpeter and atmospheric changes have visibly deteriorated, not only externally but reaching the internal anchors of the slab, corroding them causing the parts to brake - have been carried out. “The polymer concrete as a material for the parts restoration has been a key player, since it guarantees virtually no water absorption, avoiding further problems.”. The project management and project author, the Costuk construction company and the technical architect Francesc Sas, all were looking for a substitute of the artificial rock with a waterproof prefabricated material, resistant to atmospheric changes, lightweightness and of easy installation, reason for which they contacted Polymer Concrete ULMA’s Technical - Commercial Department. Alternatives offered to polymer concrete were limited to the rock. The project management, with its latest experience, dismissed* this material knowing it would produce the same problems over the years and chose the polymer concrete instead. It is worth mentioning that given the material’s lightweightness, the installation is comfortable and fast. In addition, the anchoring system has an embedded nut that facilitates even more the installation. The polymer concrete has properties such as the reduced water absorption percentage, lightweightness, adaptability, smooth finishing, plus it delivers 4 times more resistance than traditional concrete.
