Chimney caps for coastal areas

In the city of San Sebastián, in the Gros neighborhood, the chimney cap restoration of a complete block of houses was planned. Both humidity and saltpeter have deteriorated, among other elements, the original chimney caps of traditional concrete. The material was aesthetically awful and technical properties of the material due to deterioration of internal steel frames were lost, this would end up breaking the parts. The study and management carried out jointly between our Technical and Commercial staff and the foreman builder in charge of the restoration, Juan Ramon de Pablo, found the solution, the installation in the chimneys of prefabricated parts of Polymer Concrete. Thanks to the waterproof properties of this material, neither water nor saltpeter affects the parts. “The original chimney caps made up of traditional concrete were deteriorated by humidity and saltpeter action”. The chimney caps were specially designed to adjust and fit in the building’s roof. They were made in two different sizes of 640mm wide and 470 and 400 mm long respectively. The base piece used was the pier cap, to which a central hole with the chimney diameter was made. The pyramidal design allows the drainage thereof to the outer part of the building.
