The CEIP El Tren de Fort Pienc Child Education Center and Elementary School located in the Barcelona Urban Expansion has been selected for the Catalonia Construction Awards 2007, in the Construction Innovation category. The main innovation of the building is precisely the Ventilated Façade of ULMA Hormigón Polímero. Likewise, ULMA has participated in the project with supplying slats already perforated for installation throughout the Building line.
The Ventilated Façade is an efficient system which collaborates in the comfortable offer of the building. It is about enhancing the behavior of the buildings preventing the thermal bridges and this translates to important energy savings which completes all the environmental sustainability requirements. The creating architects of the reference projects, Felipe Pich-Aguilera and Teresa Batlle of Pich-Aguilera studio, engaged with the environmental respect, tried to know the surroundings and find comfort adapting to the environment, so applying the principles of bioclimatic architecture. For all this, they thought of Ventilated Façades.
In the Ventilated Façade system of the CEIP El Tren de Fort Pienc building it was used along with the smooth texture, a notched special texture designed specifically for this project. In the integrated service offered by the ULMA Hormigón Polímero Ventilated Façade line allows to carry out a custom-made project designing the solution for each case. It provides an integrated management, from raw materials selection, the manufacturing of the parts, to the project study and ending with the installation and delivery of the work. The authors of the project, Felipe Pich-Aguilera and Teresa Batlle, needed a piece which led the light get through sifting it so it gets in with less intensity. The Project Team designed some perforated panels which fulfilled the desired function.
“The collaboration in the project was very interesting, the Project Team started immediately with tests and offered us absolute availability to find the pieces we wanted as for textures, colors and special pieces such as perforated plates” stated Teresa Batlle.
As for the slats provided, along with fulfilling the aesthetic function, cover the sun and letting the light and air to pass through, the architects objective has been achieved which was to satisfy the building needs using the same material so to be able to maintain uniformity.
As well as in the previous edition of the awards granted by the Surveyors and Technical Architects Association of Barcelona (CAATB), all candidacies selected will be collected in a publication and will be part of an traveling exposition which will travel throughout Catalonia.
